Common Physical Therapy Questions

You’ve got questions and we’re here to help! Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive here at Therapydia.
What are physical therapists?

Physical therapists (PTs) are specialized medical practitioners with advanced degrees. As movement experts, PTs receive extensive training in anatomy, physiology, and pathology in clinical doctorate programs. PTs are trained to assess your condition and help you restore functional mobility and independence. They use a variety of personalized treatment modalities and techniques to help you move better and feel better.

What conditions do Therapydia physical therapists treat?
Therapydia PTs treat a range of conditions including:
  • Post-surgical conditions
  • Sports injuries
  • Low back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Hip pain
  • Knee pain
  • Foot and ankle pain
  • Mobility limitations
  • Gait dysfunction
  • Pelvic Health
  • Vestibular
  • Neurologic conditions
What makes Therapydia different than other physical therapy clinics?

The sunlit, boutique environments at our clinics offer a casual and comfortable setting for you to reach your unique goals, whatever they may be—improving mobility, reducing pain, restoring function, or preventing injury.

By choosing to work with us, you’ll receive one-on-one treatments with a physical therapist for the entire duration of your treatment. We are proud to offer a high level of care customized to your goals and needs because we know that quality care delivered in a thoughtful manner will help you get better, faster.

Do I need to see a doctor before I come in to see one of your physical therapists?

Every state in the US is Direct Access, which means that you can receive immediate treatment from a physical therapist without first seeing a physician, saving you time and money. Though some insurance plans may require you to obtain a referral from a doctor, we can always check for you prior to beginning treatment.

With that in mind, our therapists are also qualified to recognize when a patient exhibits symptoms outside of the scope and expertise of physical therapy. We’re more than happy to refer you to a physician or additional health care provider when necessary.

What should I expect?
When you come to Therapydia for your initial evaluation, your physical therapist will start out by conducting a full-body assessment to test your strength and flexibility and will observe you perform functional movements that you do on a daily basis. Based on your results, they’ll design an individualized plan of care to address any limitations, improve your symptoms, and teach you about your condition. The job of a physical therapist is to provide a patient-centered treatment approach, giving you the knowledge and tools necessary to take an active role in your recovery.
Do I need to bring anything to my initial evaluation?

Physical therapy is all about movement. We ask that you wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes, similar to what you might wear to a gym.

We’ll also need you to bring a few items with you:

  • Photo ID
  • Health insurance card and co-payment (if applicable)
  • Insurance referral (if needed per your insurance policy)
  • Patient Intake Forms: We encourage you to fill these out online before your appointment. If you’re able to complete them in advance, there is no need to bring a copy to your appointment
Do you take my insurance?
Yes, we accept all insurances. We also accept Workers’ Compensation, Auto Claims, HSA, FSA, and cash-based payments.
