Pelvic Health Physical Therapy
Pelvic Health Physical Therapy spans across age groups and life events from competing in sports to childbirth, menopause and into the golden years. Millions of people suffer from pelvic pain or pelvic floor dysfunction; however, the majority of these go untreated. There are multiple causes of pelvic floor dysfunction including: infections, pregnancy and childbirth, chronic low back and SI dysfunction, trauma and surgery.
We tend to over-utilize our abdominal muscles to compensate for our pelvic floor muscles. For patients suffering from incontinence, we provide minimally invasive, one-on-one treatments to help strengthen the pelvic floor muscles that are responsible for holding up the bladder and prevent leaking.
At Therapydia, our Pelvic Health Physical Therapy services address the unique musculoskeletal problems of the pelvic region. Just like any other condition treated with physical therapy, Pelvic Health Physical Therapy can help to treat any functional limitations you may be experiencing and also offer prevention services.
Pelvic Health Physical Therapy Treatments
Our physical therapists work individually with each patient to understand their particular needs in order to tailor a plan that fits with their goals and lifestyle. Throughout your visits, you will work with a Doctor of Physical Therapy who will listen to your needs and answer any questions you may have. Our goal is to build strength and flexibility while reducing any pain you may be experiencing.
Your physical therapy treatment may include the following techniques:
- SEMG Biofeedback For Pelvic Training
- Internal Vaginal Examination and Treatment
- External Vaginal Cueing and Manual Therapy
- Techniques to Correct Joint Alignment
- Pelvic, Hip, and Core Strengthening
- Postural Correction
- Trigger Point Dry Needling
- Soft Tissue Release
- Therapeutic Exercise
- Patient Education
Pre- And Post-Partum Specific Treatments
Physical therapy can be used both pre and post-partum. During your pregnancy, physical therapy can address the musculoskeletal changes that you will experience during pregnancy. Postpartum physical therapy can help to assess how your body has changed during your pregnancy and create a program to help you feel stronger, lighter and more secure.
Many individuals suffer from back pain during their pregnancy. This increased back pain is due to multiple causes such as an increase in hormones, poor posture, and a change in your center of gravity. During your PT treatment, your pelvic health physical therapist will evaluate potential causes of your back pain to provide a custom treatment program based on your needs and goals. Your treatment may include manual therapy, postural correction and hip strengthening.
After you have a child, your pelvic floor and core muscles may become very weak. Our physical therapists will work with you to strengthen your pelvic floor muscles and develop a custom therapeutic exercise program to strengthen your core and surrounding muscles.
